What Actually Happened
Standard Chartered's Geoff Kendrick became one of Wall Street's loudest crypto bulls, predicting in March 2024 that Ethereum would hit $14,000 by end of 2025. When Ethereum started tanking, he slashed the target to $10,000. When it kept falling, he cut it again to $4,000 in March 2025, calling Ethereum's troubles a "midlife crisis." He blamed layer 2 networks like Base for "cannibalizing" Ethereum's revenue. The cryptocurrency closed 2025 at roughly $2,968 — missing even his triple-slashed target by 25%. What makes this particularly painful: Kendrick kept publishing bullish updates even as the chart cratered, somehow finding new reasons for optimism while repeatedly lowering expectations. The "dramatically improved backdrop" he cited in 2024 included... checks notes... absolutely nothing that prevented a 75% miss from his original call.
