Wall Street CEOs Predicted the S&P 500 Would Barely Move. It Rallied 8.3% Instead.

"The S&P 500 will end 2025 between 6,000 and 6,500. Definitely not much upside from here."

— 73% of surveyed CEOs, December 2024

December 2024

What Actually Happened

When Chief Executive Magazine polled CEOs in December 2024, the vast majority predicted the S&P 500 would stay flat to slightly up, with 73% forecasting a year-end close between 6,000 and 6,500. Only 27% predicted it would actually break through 6,500. Surprise, surprise: The S&P 500 smashed through that ceiling, climbing to over 6,700 by year-end 2025. The consensus missed by nearly 10%. Meanwhile, the same CEOs who got this wrong are now in 2026 confidently predicting... the market will stay between 6,750 and 7,000. Surely THIS time they nailed it.
