Goldman Sachs Promises Fed Rate Cuts in March. April Arrives: "Maybe June?"

Posted April 22, 2026

"We expect the first Fed cut in March, followed by three total cuts through 2026."

— Goldman Sachs Economics Team

December 2025

What Actually Happened

In late January 2026, Goldman Sachs and Barclays had to walk back their cheerful December forecast that Fed rate cuts would arrive in March. The boys in blue moved the goalposts to June. Now in late April 2026, with zero cuts delivered and inflation still sticky, Goldman has conveniently shifted to "timing remains uncertain" while still clinging to the hope of maybe two cuts by year-end. Meanwhile, JPMorgan called it straight: zero cuts in 2026, hike in 2027. Oops.
