The Scorecard

Cathie Wood Promised ARKK Would 5x by December 2026. It Needs to Rise 540% in 9 Months.

Posted March 03, 2026

"With a five-year investment time horizon, our forecasts suggest that our strategies today could deliver a 30-40% compound annual rate of return during the next five years. In other words, if our research is correct – and I believe that our research on innovation is the best in the financial world – then our strategies will triple to quintuple in value over the next five years."

— Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest

What Actually Happened

When Cathie Wood made this prediction, ARKK was trading around $93. For her "quintuple in value" forecast to come true by December 2026, the fund would need to hit approximately $465. As of March 2026, ARKK trades around $73 – meaning it is DOWN 21% since she made the prediction, not up 400%. The fund recently marked its 10-day losing streak, its longest on record. While the Nasdaq 100 gained roughly 80% over this period, ARKK remains more than 50% below its 2021 peak of $159. For Wood to be vindicated, ARKK would need to surge approximately 540% in the remaining 9 months. She did note her research "is the best in the financial world," so maybe she knows something we do not.
