Michael Burry Shorted Tesla. Tesla Didn't Care.

"Disclosed a massive short position against Tesla via put options worth over $530 million in notional value."

What Actually Happened

Michael Burry, famous for his successful bet against the housing market in 2008, took a major short position against Tesla in 2021. He purchased put options on approximately 800,100 shares when Tesla was trading around $660.

Tesla's stock went on to surge to over $400 (split-adjusted) in late 2021 before Burry reportedly closed his position at a significant loss. While the exact P&L isn't public, the timing suggests he lost substantially.

This is a reminder that even legendary investors can get it wrong, and that being right once (housing crisis) doesn't guarantee being right again. The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent, as the saying goes.
